What Is Adhesive?
Adhesive, any substance that is capable of holding materials together in a functional manner by surface attachment that resists separation. “Adhesive” as a general term includes cement, mucilage, glue, and paste—terms that are often usedinterchangeably for any organic material that forms an adhesive bond.
Pressure Sensitive Adhesive(PSA) is adhesive which forms a bond when pressure is applied. They do not require solvent, water, or heat to activate the adhesive.
The degree of bond is influenced by the amount of pressure which is used to apply the adhesive to the surface.
Solvent based adhesives are a mixture of ingredients (typically polymers) dissolved in a solvent.
Adjustable set time, higher bonding capability, resistance to moisture are the higher properties Solvent Based Adhesives have.
EVA is a 100% solid, transparent, flexible Ethylene Vinyl-Acetate copolymer.
It is normally categorized by percent Vinyl-Acetate(VA) content and melt flow rate (MFR) or melt index (MI).
Most commonly used EVAs contain between 19% and 28% VA
PVA is a emulsion based on polyvinyl acetate and copolymer.
PVAs are water based, and clean up with warm soapy water.
PVA sets best in good air circulation, at room temperature by evaporation or by absorbation of applied material.
